Vol. 382 No. 5

Written Answers. - Military Overflights.

45.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of military overflights which take place per month by aircraft of foreign powers; whether they have been required to confirm that they are not carrying nuclear weapons during the course of their overflight; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of overflights of the State by foreign military aircraft is about 660 a month on average. The conditions subject to which such overflights are permitted include a requirement that the aircraft involved be unarmed and carry no arms, ammunition or explosives.
