Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - OECD Committee.

73.

asked the Minister for Finance if an OECD committee exists on financial services; its mandate; the frequency of its meetings and by whom Ireland is represented thereon.

I am not aware of any OECD Committee on Financial Services. There is an OECD Committee on Financial Markets. There is also an OECD Joint Working Group on Banking and Related Financial Services established under the aegis of the Committee on Financial Markets and the Committee on Capital Movements and Invisible Transactions.

The mandate of the Committee on Financial Markets covers areas such as: (a) the monotoring of current developments and future prospects in national and international financial markets; (b) promoting international trade in financial services; (c) improving conditions for the efficient functioning of financial institutions and markets; and (d) improving financial statistics.

The mandate of the Joint Working Group on Banking and Related Financial Services is to examine and propose amendments to the OECD codes of liberalisation of capital movements in so far as the codes concern banking and related financial services.

Meetings of both forums are held regularly (2 to 3 times per year). My Department are represented on the Committee on Financial Markets. Ireland has not attended the meetings of the Joint Working Group but we have observer status on the Committee on Capital Movements and Invisible Transactions. The Joint Working Group reports both to this Committee and to the Committee on Financial Markets.
