Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - National Lottery Allocations.

279.

asked the Minister for Education (a) the names of the organisations from the constituency of Meath-Westmeath who have applied for national lottery funds (b) the names of those who have been successful (c) the amounts received and (d) the names of those who were unsuccessful.

Under my Department's schemes of assistance to youth, annual grants are paid to national or large regional voluntary youth organisations. Consequently, it is not possible to furnish information along the lines sought by the Deputy.

A special fund also exists for the development of special services to disadvantaged young people. Grants from this fund were allocated following the recommendations of an inter-departmental committee to support local and national initiatives through national youth organisations, vocational education committees or other approved agencies. Applications were not invited from local groups. The Meath-Westmeath area was allocated £56,000 from the total fund of £4 million available. The provision of the information in the format requested by the Deputy in respect of my Department's capital grant scheme would involve an inordinate amount of time and I am not prepared to divert staff for this purpose.

Should the Deputy wish to inquire about a particular project I will endeavour to supply the information sought.
