The information requested is not available in my Department. Because of multiplicity of applications by candidates, it is not possible to quantify the information sought. I am assured, however, that for each category mentioned by the Deputy, the number of applications received exceeds the number of training places on offer.
The tabular statement below sets out the numbers of students recruited in each of the categories in the years referred to by the Deputy. The 1989 figure is provisional as recruitment for 1989 has not yet been completed by all hospitals:
