Vol. 393 No. 3

Written Answers. - Primary Schools in Disadvantaged Areas.

44.

asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction extra posts for primary schools in disadvantaged areas under the existing scheme for the school years 1989-1990 and 1990-1991.

126.

asked the Minister for Education when she will implement the recommendations of the working party report Disadvantage — a Time for Action as it is understood that she agreed in September 1989 to sanction formally the allocation of an extra number of teachers and no such action has taken place to date; and the reason for the delay in the implementation of the findings of the report.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 44 and 126 together. The Estimates allocations announced by the Government yesterday include provision for up to 95 concessionary teaching posts in national schools in disadvantaged areas as well as a further 30 remedial teaching posts. My Department will be in touch with the schools in question in regard to arrangements for making the appointments as soon as possible.
