Vol. 393 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowance Certificates.

85.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax free allowance certificate will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that an amended certificate of tax-free allowances on a cumulative basis is being issued to the taxpayer today.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason Deputy Gay Mitchell has not received a final reply to representations on behalf of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6; and the reason a tax free allowance certificate issued on 12 October 1989 was restricted to a week-one basis for the person concerned who is an elderly widow living alone.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a reply to Deputy Mitchell's representations on behalf of the taxpayer was issued to him on 10 November 1989.

The amended certificate of tax-free allowances which was issued to the taxpayer on 12 October 1989, was issued on a week-one basis to avoid collection of an underpayment. The underpayment arose because the taxpayer's social welfare pension had been under-assessed. In view of the taxpayer's present circumstances it is not proposed to collect the underpayment.
