Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowance.

162.

asked the Minister for Health if he will intervene in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 22 to make retrospective payment of the disabled person's maintenance allowance on the basis that the claim, which was made a month after the claimant's 16th birthday was delayed due to the anxiety of the parents not to make a second claim for benefit while moneys under the domiciliary care allowance were still outstanding and that these moneys were due to the family solely because of an error on the part of the Eastern Health Board; and whether it is contrary to the purpose of the regulations on the payment of retrospective moneys of the disabled person's maintenance allowance that handicapped children would suffer because of an error forced on the parents by the same health board.

Payment of disabled person's maintenance allowance in any individual case is a matter for the health board concerned. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the Chief Executive Officer, Eastern Health Board, with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
