Written Answers. - Marriages (Ireland) Act, 1844.

161.

asked the Minister for Health, in order to ensure that people of all religious persuasions or none are seen to be treated equally before the law, if he has any plans to amend the Marriages (Ireland) Act, 1844, in order to enable designated representatives of Ana-baptist, Armenian, Assemblies of God, Bahai, Buddhist, Christadelphian, Christian Science, Coptic, Greek Orthodox, Hindu, Humanist, Islamic, Jehovah's Witness, Maronite, Mennonite, Moravian, Mormon, Plymouth Brethern, Rationalist, Russian Orthodox, Salvation Army, Seventh Day Adventists, Sikh, Strict Bapist, Unitarian, Universalist, Zoroastrian and other religious groups, to conduct valid wedding ceremonies without a prior civil marriage under the same conditions as obtain for the Church of Ireland and the Roman Catholic Church.

The issue raised by the Deputy is being considered in the context of a comprehensive review of the laws relating to the registration of births, marriages and deaths, which I am undertaking.
