Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Cork Radar Station.

205.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if it is proposed to make Mount Gabriel radar station, County Cork automatic; and, if so, the arrangements which are being made to compensate staff who will either be transferred or lose their jobs.

As part of a major air navigation equipment programme costing £30 million, two new Monopulse secondary surveillance radars will be installed at Mount Gabriel. This equipment will incorporate extensive remote maintenance facilities and will permit the de-manning of Mount Gabriel by the end of 1991. The redeployment of the staff is necessary so as to provide a cost-effective and economic service to airline users. The standard Civil Service provisions in relation to removal and household expenses apply in cases such as this.
