Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Assistance.

207.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if grant assistance will be available to family run hotels for increasing accommodation facilities and the provision of recreational facilities; and, if so, when such assistance will be available.

I expect to be announcing shortly details of grant assistance from the ERDF for tourism under the National Development Plan 1989-1993.

Categories of projects which will qualify for assistance and aid rates which will apply, are currently the subject of discussion with the EC Commission, in the context of an operational programme for tourism under the national plan.

208.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if the Government will provide financial assistance for the operation of the Swansea-Cork ferry in 1990.

The Government have decided, in principle, that financial assistance should be made available to Swansea Cork Ferries Limited for the provision of a Cork-Swansea ferry service in 1990. This decision, however, is subject to a number of stringent conditions.

The principal condition is that the service must be operated on a management contract basis on behalf of Swansea Cork Ferries Limited by an existing experienced ferry operator. The terms of the contract will be subject to my approval.

Another condition is that the performance of Swansea Cork Ferries in 1990 must meet very specific agreed financial targets.
