Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - Border Region Tourist Accommodation.

27.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will consider introducing a scheme of grants for tourism accommodation in the Border region of Counties Cavan/Monaghan; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is a great shortage of suitable accommodation in this region as grant aid available from Bord Fáilte in the mid-seventies and early eighties was not taken up because of the situation in Northern Ireland and the spill over of violence at that time.

There are no plans at present to introduce grants schemes for the provision of accommodation.

Investment in most categories of accommodation already qualifies for relief under the business expansion scheme. There is also a provision in the agri-tourism scheme in the revised western package which allows farmers in disadvantaged areas to get assistance for accommodation where it is linked to the development of tourist amenities.
