Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - Mulcair (Limerick) Drainage.

71.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position concerning the drainage of the Mulcair River, County Limerick; his future plans in this regard; and the reason for the total lack of provision for arterial drainage in the sub-regional plan for the mid-west region.

A preliminary design and cost estimate of a drainage scheme for the Mulcair river catchment is in preparation at present. When this work has been completed it will be necessary to undertake economic and environmental studies of the proposals before a decision could be made in relation to the commencement of a scheme for the catchment. The regulations governing the EC Structural Funds preclude Structural Fund assistance towards arterial drainage works.
