Vol. 393 No. 6

Written Answers. - US Prosecution of Aer Lingus Subsidiary.

25.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if discussions took place between the Irish and US Governments concerning the prosecution of an Aer Lingus subsidiary in Florida; if so, the nature of these discussions; and their outcome.

62.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, regarding the fine imposed by a US court as a result of allegations that a subsidiary of Aer Lingus had been involved in the supply of aircraft parts to Iran, if he has discussed this matter or plans to discuss it with his counterpart in the US Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 25 and 62 together.

Our ambassador in Washington was in contact with the US State Department to advise the US Government authorities of our interest in a matter concerning the national airline. This was referred to in the Dáil on 13 December 1988. It would not be appropriate or in accordance with normal practice to go into details of these contacts.

As the Deputy is aware, this case has now been settled. Accordingly, there is no intention to raise it with the US at government level.
