Vol. 393 No. 6

Written Answers. - Access to Public Buildings.

80.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans to introduce legislation requiring ramps to be installed at all public buildings in order to ensure ease of access by wheel-chair-bound members of the public; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The proposed building regulations published by my Department in 1984 contain provisions relating to access for the disabled and circulation within buildings. The Building Control Bill, which has been restored to the Dáil Order Paper at Committee Stage, will enable the proposed regulations to be implemented on a statutory basis. Pending its enactment, all those involved with the construction industry have been asked to observe the requirements in the proposed regulations.
