The capital allocation for the local authority housing construction programme provides not only for the construction of new local authority dwellings but also for the purchase of houses to be taken into and form part of the local authority housing stock.
I would refer the Deputy to the replies to Questions No. 286 of 24 October 1989 and No. 42 of 14 November 1989 which set out the present position in relation to the availability of capital funding for the local authority housing construction programme. The position outlined in those replies applies equally to the purchase of houses by local authorities.
