Vol. 393 No. 6

Written Answers. - Navan, Meath, School Transport.

99.

asked the Minister for Education if she will increase the number of school transport buses collecting children who are attending St. Mary's Special School, Athlumney, Navan, County Meath whose ages range from four years to 18 years having regard to the fact that at present some of these children have to leave home at 7.30 a.m. to arrive in school at 9.30 a.m.; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Special national schools have, unavoidably, lengthy school transport journeys due to the geographical dispersion of relatively small numbers of pupils over large areas.

The standard of service available to the pupils is similar to the standard of service on offer to pupils attending similar educational facilities throughout the country.

Ten buses are now being used to transport pupils to the two special schools in Navan (St. Mary's and St. Ultan's).
