Vol. 393 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rathcroghan (Roscommon) Site.

63.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will co-operate with Roscommon County Council in the construction of a lay-by and parking area off the national primary route N5 at the archaeological site at Rathcroghan, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the proposed project.

The Commissioners of Public Works are co-operating with Roscommon County Council in their efforts to acquire lands for the provision of a car park and access route at Rathcroghan Earthworks, County Roscommon.

Roscommon County Council asked the commissioners to make a contribution towards the cost of purchasing the necessary lands. The commissioners agreed to make a contribution of £2,000 on the basis that the access route would be transferred to them when acquired by the county council. The council has been informed that the money will be made available as soon as it is required.

All negotiations for the purchase of the lands are being carried out by the county council. The construction of the car park would be a matter for the county council.
