Vol. 393 No. 8

Written Answers. - Stamp Duties.

68.

asked the Minister for Finance the cost or estimated cost to the Exchequer due to the exemption of the sale of new houses from stamp duties which qualify for a grant under the Housing Act, 1966, in year from 1985 to 1989 inclusive.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that exemption from stamp duty is given when the property is the subject of a floor area certificate issued by the Department of the Environment and the deed relates to the purchase of a new house.

In order to minimise administrative costs and to provide a speedy service in a situation where there is no stamp duty chargeable, statistics are not maintained as to the number of instruments exempted and the values, if any, specified on them.
