Galway has been designated a regional sports centre with a fixed capital grant allocation of £1.5 million from the proceeds of the national lottery.
My Department have been in consultation with Galway Corporation regarding the further planning of the project including the detailed arrangements envisaged for the management and operation of the completed facility.
Galway Corporation's response in the matter is now awaited.
It is not possible to state at this stage when construction work will commence.
