Vol. 393 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fish Kills.

27.

asked the Minister for the Marine the number of cases of fish kills in rivers or lakes reported to his Department during the first nine months of 1989; the number of fish estimated to have been killed in such incidents; the estimated cost of restocking, arising from these incidents; the number of cases where prosecutions have been initiated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

One hundred and seven fish kills were recorded by my Department in the period in question. It is estimated that around 35,000 fish were killed. Estimates of the cost of restocking are not readily available. I am informed that 20 prosecutions have been initiated by the regional fisheries board.
