Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Irish Hospitals Trust Moneys.

190.

asked the Minister for Health the total moneys, if any, outstanding in the Irish Hospitals' Trust; and the way in which it is proposed to dispose of such funds.

I presume this question refers to unclaimed prize money arising from the hospitals' sweepstakes.

Taking account of some insubstantial charges against the prize fund accounts, the net aggregate balance at present is approximately £450,000 of which approximately £170,000 relates to unclaimed prizes and the balance to net interest on the undistributed prize money.

The Government has decided that these funds should be used for the benefit of former employees, pensioners and others, of Hospital Trust (1940) Limited. The preparation of the necessary legislation to allow this is in hand and will be processed with all possible speed.
