Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Groups.

189.

asked the Minister for Health the number of medical groups or organisations which are recognised by his Department as negotiating bodies; and if he has any plans to recognise any other such bodies.

The only negotiating body representative of medical personnel licensed under the Trade Union Act, 1941 is the Irish Medical Organisation. It is therefore the only negotiating body recognised by my Department. The question of considering an extension of recognition to any other body acting on behalf of medical personnel would depend on the body concerned successfully obtaining a negotiating licence or being registered as an excepted body under the terms of the Trade Union Acts, 1941 to 1971 or being admitted to the local authority and health services conciliation and arbitration scheme as a recognised staff association.
