Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Westmeath School Repairs.

217.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a grant for repairs which have been carried out to a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath has not been paid; the amount of the grant; when it will be paid; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is understood that the Deputy is referring to the provision of sinks at the national school in question. My Department's professional advisers considered that the cost of the sinks should not be eligible for grant as they were not of the standard type usually approved for national schools. The matter is being reconsidered in my Department with a view to paying a proportion of the cost and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities as early as possible.

It is not the practice to divulge the financial details of a project because of the need to preserve a bond of confidentiality in the matter between the Department and the school authorities.
