Vol. 394 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Maternity Hospitals' Rationalisation.

105.

asked the Minister for Health if any rationalisation of Dublin's maternity hospitals is planned in view of the declining birth rate.

The number of births in the three Dublin maternity hospitals has declined from 23,076 in 1980 to 20,472 in 1988. These numbers are being kept under review. The Deputy will be aware that the maternity unit at St. James's Hospital has been transferred to the Coombe Hospital and the maternity unit at St. Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown has been transferred to the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street.
