Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Motor Taxation Office.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

327 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Environment if he has made the necessary arrangements to recruit more staff for the Dublin Motor Taxation Office; the present position regarding the large backlog of applications for driving licences which existed in January, 1990; and whether this backlog has been cleared.

The staffing arrangements in the Dublin motor tax office are primarily a matter for the licensing authority — Dublin Corporation.

As regards driving licence applications, certain temporary delays arose from the introduction of the new Eurostyle driving licence last November. I understand, from the corporation, that the average length of time between the date of application and date of issue is being systematically reduced. The average period is now about two weeks and the corporation expect to reduce it to about one week, early next month.
