Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Typewriting Examinations.

John Bruton

Ceist:

430 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if electronic typewriters may be used in taking examinations in typing; and, if so, the way in which fairness is maintained with schools whose students have access to conventional typewriters only.

Since 1988 candidates may, if they wish, use electronic typewriters in my Department's typewriting examinations. Examiners are aware of whether the candidate has used a manual or an electronic machine. The marking scheme embraces all types of machine and allows for equity irrespective of the type of machine used.
