Vol. 395 No. 1

Written Answers. - Contamination or Spiking of Food.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

135 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health the number of incidents reported to his office where deliberate contamination or spiking of food was found to be the cause of withdrawal of that same food from the market; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1989 the alleged malicious contamination of baby foods led to the temporary withdrawal of these products. Also, in that year a particular variety of children's sweets was withdrawn following suspicion of malicious contamination. There were no such incidents reported for some years prior to 1989.
