Ceist:30 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the proposed sports complex and running track in Galway; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Galway Sports Complex Proposal.
Galway has been designated a regional sports centre with a fixed capital grant allocation of £1.5 million from the proceeds of the national lottery to include all design and construction costs.
Discussions between my Department and Galway Corporation were conducted on an on-going basis from September 1989 and details were requested outlining the proposed management structures and how the centre might be operated on a self financing basis. A report on the matter was received this month and this is now under consideration.
It is not possible at this stage to give a commencement date for construction work.
