Vol. 395 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

144 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application for a grant from national lottery funds from a club (details supplied) in County Dublin; the present position regarding the application; if it will be favourably considered in view of the excellent work in the sporting field for young people undertaken by this club and the substantial expenditure already incurred in premises for this purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

156 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate a block grant to Limerick County Council from national lottery funds, ensuring that councillors have a positive role in allocating funds for projects.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

157 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the role and function of local authorities in the disbursement of national lottery funds.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

158 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding an application for an amenity grant for a sporting club (details supplied) in County Wexford; when grants from the national lottery under this heading will be allocated by him in 1990; and the total funding available for such projects this year.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 144, 156, 157 and 158 together.

I would refer the Deputies to the replies of the Minister for Finance of 24 October 1989 to Questions Nos. 26, 33, 43, 48 and 55, which include a statement of the Government's decisions on arrangements for the new amenities/recreational facilities grants scheme. No change in these arrangements is proposed.

Under the arrangements decided by the Government each county council, county borough and Dún Laoghaire Corporation is required to categorise applications and prepare a list of all those which they are prepared to recommend. The list, when considered and approved by the elected members, must be submitted with supporting documentation to my Department not later than 28 February 1990. I will announce grant allocations as soon as possible after that date.
