Vol. 395 No. 3

Written Answers. - Clane, Kildare, School Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

185 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed physical education complex at Scoil Mhuire Community School, Clane, County Kildare; if she will give favourable consideration to the provision of this facility in the current year; her views on whether the large number of students attending the school necessitates the provision of such facilities; if she will outline the full extent of the facility proposed in this instance; the likely date on which the facility in question will be available; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of physical education halls in post-primary schools is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities. As the capital programme for 1990 has not yet been finalised I am not in a position at present to indicate when it will be possible to allocate funds for the provision of physical education facilities for Scoil Mhuire Community School, Clane. The extent of the proposed facilities will be determined on the basis of the school's needs following a review of its projected pupil numbers.
