Vol. 395 No. 3

Written Answers. - Equitation Teams.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

33 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Defence if the figure published in the Book of Estimates for expenses of equitation teams at horse shows is a net figure after deduction of winnings; if he will outline the arrangements for distribution of any such winnings; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Prize money won at shows is not used to fund the cost of sending equitation school teams to shows. Fifty per cent of the prize money won by Army riders at international shows is divided equally between the riders who participated in the shows in question. Fifty per cent of the prize money won at national shows is divided equally between the riders who compete nationally. The remaining 50 per cent is brought to account as an appropriation-in-aid of the Defence Vote generally.
