Vol. 395 No. 3

Written Answers. - Papal Visit Report.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

81 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will comment on recent reports that the Pope may visit Ireland again in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government's position on visits by Heads of State follows the established international practice. This requires that arrangements for any such visit should be agreed mutually in advance; and that, if such a visit is to take place, it should be announced by agreement.

The Deputy will therefore appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to comment in this or any other such case on whether a visit is under consideration.
