Vol. 395 No. 4

Written Answers. - ODA Budget.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

91 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the amount of money which remains in the emergency fund of the Overseas Development Aid budget for the remainder of 1990; and the way in which the £750,000 in the published Estimates for 1990 has been spent.

A sum of £600,000 remains in the Disaster Relief Fund in the International Co-operation Vote. The allocation for 1990 is £750,000. Of this, £150,000 has been spent as follows: Irish Red Cross — Purchase of medical supplies for Romania, £100,000; Trocaire — Purchase of emergency food and medical supplies for Eritrea in Ethiopia, £50,000.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

94 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the way in which the £1 million not required by the EC for International Development was spent as it does not appear to have been left in the Overseas Development Aid budget for 1990 despite appearing in the published Estimates for 1990.

The £1 million not required for the European Development Fund has not been spent by my Department. The allocation for this has been reduced by £1 million which has been taken into account as a reduction in the 1990 budgetary arithmetic.

The Vote for International Co-operation in the post-budget revised Estimates volume will show a reduction of £1 million in the relevant subhead and in the Vote as a whole.
