Vol. 395 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

131 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the amount of grants paid to each sports club in the city and county of Dublin in (a) 1988 and (b) 1989; if any decisions in respect of grants for 1990 have been made; and, if so, if she will give details thereof.

Details of grants paid in 1988 and 1989 under the capital grants scheme for the provision of recreational facilities in the city and county of Dublin follow.

With the exception of funds carried over to meet ongoing commitments no grants have been allocated in 1990 under this scheme.

As outlined by the Minister for Finance on the 24 October 1989 in his reply to Questions Nos. 26, 48 and 55, the Government decided to amalgamate the capital grants scheme operated by my Department with the amenity grants scheme operated by the Department of the Environment into a single scheme.

Under the new arrangements, the Minister for the Environment will allocate grants to projects recommended by local authorities, which will also be responsible for the processing of all applications under the new scheme.

The following block grants were paid in 1988 and 1989 to County Dublin and City of Dublin Vocational Education Committees to assist youth and sports schemes at local level.
