Ceist:

31 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Finance the future plans for the Royal Canal from Mullingar to the Shannon and to Longford; whether the restoration of the locks is part of the plan; and whether EC funds will be available to complete this project.

It is hoped to restore the Royal Canal from Mullingar to the Shannon and to Longford on a phased basis according as resources permit. Restoration of the locks is an essential part of the plan. It is hoped that EC funds will be available to assist with the cost of the work.
