Ceist:

211 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the changes, if any, made in the past ten years in the list of subjects approved for junior and senior cycle pupils in second level schools.

The following changes were made in the past ten years in the list of subjects approved for junior and senior cycle pupils:

(i) Classical Studies was introduced as a new subject.

(ii) Engineering was introduced to replace Engineering Workshop Theory and Practice.

(iii) Construction Studies was introduced to replace Building Construction.

(iv) Mechanics was discontinued as a separate subject and included as part of Applied Mathematics.

(v) Hebrew Studies was introduced to replace Hebrew.

(vi) Music was introduced as a revised subject in the senior cycle (Formerly Music and Musicianship).

(vii) Business Studies was introduced in the Junior Cycle to replace Commerce.

(viii) Art, Craft, Design was introduced in the Junior Cycle to replace Art.

(ix) Technology is being introduced in the Junior Cycle on a phased basis.
