Ceist:24 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Marine if he will publish a ten year plan for the development of marinas.
Vol. 395 No. 6
24 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Marine if he will publish a ten year plan for the development of marinas.
My Department has a policy of facilitating private investment in marinas and encouraging those initiatives which can enhance Ireland's tourism and leisure facilities. This includes urgent consideration of proposals with foreshore implications, engineering advice and general advice on suitable contacts where other agencies are concerned. It will support any organisation which is prepared to raise the level of investment required and to devote the time and effort necessary for the development of properly planned marinas at suitable locations.
I cannot say in advance where proposals will come from and am not, therefore, in a position to publish a plan for the development of marinas. I am keen that each individual proposal for a marina be considered on its own merits.
