Vol. 395 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Cork Pier.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

33 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for the Marine if he has received an application for funding for the restoration of Ballycotton Pier, County Cork, which was seriously damaged in recent storms; and if it is intended to allocate such funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Cork County Council have recently requested assistance from my Department to deal with storm damage to Ballycotton Pier and breakwater, for which the county council have maintenance responsibility.

Following an inspection by my Department's regional engineer, I am advised that a section at the head of the breakwater was damaged by the recent storms and that the county council are arranging to have a concrete beacon on the breakwater removed so as to reduce the strain on the damaged section. Maintenance and remedial works are primarily a matter for Cork County Council.
