Vol. 395 No. 6

Written Answers. - FDS Temporary Staff.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

135 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that temporary staff appointed by him on a week on-week off basis to farm development offices in the country are unable to type and consequently a huge backlog of work has accrued in those offices; and if he will take immediate steps to appoint personnel who have typing qualifications and thereby alleviate the backlog of work in such offices.

Staff from veterinary or livestock areas of the local offices are assigned, from time to time, to assist FDS sections to clear backlogs of work. When the staff assigned temporarily to FDS work do not have typing qualifications it is envisaged that these officers would carry out the clerical functions of that section thus releasing regular staff to concentrate fully on clearing grant approvals.
