Vol. 396 No. 2

Written Answers. - Combat Poverty Agency.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

45 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Social Welfare the advice given to him by the Combat Poverty Agency in the discharge of their statutory functions in 1989; the action he has taken to implement that advice; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

One of the functions of the Combat Poverty Agency is to advise and make recommendations to the Minister for Social Welfare concerning all aspects of economic and social planning in the State.

During 1989, I received a number of submissions and reports from the Combat Poverty Agency, the more important of these being the pre-budget submissions on the 1989 and 1990 budgets, the agency's annual report for 1988 and a policy document entitledTowards a Funding Policy for Community Development. These submissions, which are available in the Library, represent a useful input in the formulation of the annual budget package of measures in the social welfare area.
I am also in regular contact with the agency on the other aspects of its work and I take account of any advice which the agency provides in this regard.
