48 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will commission an independent study and report into the number of children suffering from malnutrition and other nutritional problems as a result of poverty in Ireland.
The Combat Poverty Agency with my approval has commissioned two reports on nutrition. One report concerned patterns of food and nutrient intake and dietary habits among persons living in an area of high unemployment and the other concerned food intake and school meals in five inner city primary schools in Dublin. I am considering with the agency at present in the light of these reports what further research, if any, is required in this area.
