Vol. 396 No. 2

Written Answers. - Number of Women Employed.

Séamus Pattison

Ceist:

75 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of women employed in his Department at the end of 1989; if he will give a breakdown of that number on a grade by grade basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There were 2,241 women employed in my Department at the end of 1989, representing 61.5 per cent of the staff serving and the breakdown by grade is set out on a separate chart which I will make available to the Deputy.

I am particularly pleased to note that, since 1986, there has been an increase of 43 per cent in the female representation serving in the general service management grades from higher executive officer upwards.
