Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Energy Prices.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

96 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Energy the comparative prices for energy between Ireland and the rest of the EC.

Energy is sold to consumers in a wide ranging variety of forms, at different tariffs and at different tax levels depending on the end use to which it is applied and the type and source of the energy itself. It is not possible, therefore, to provide a single price comparison for energy between Ireland and the rest of the Community.

However, the most recent issue — third quarter 1989 — of energy prices and taxes published by the International Energy Agency contains tables and end user prices for many fuels for each of the OECD countries. This may be of assistance to the Deputy and I have arranged to have relevant extracts sent to him.
