Vol. 396 No. 5

Written Answers. - EC Directives.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

77 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment the action he proposes to take in order to give effect to the EC Council Directive on Construction Products; if he will outline the measures he proposes to introduce in order to give effect to the specific requirements of this directive; if he will ensure that the EC mark is used correctly and that Irish construction materials manufacturers will not be adversely affected in the interim period between now and 1991 when the directive comes into force; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Consideration is being given to the measures needed to give effect in this country to the provisions of the construction products directive, including the use of the EC mark, by June 1991, the time specified in the directive for compliance by member states with its provisions. The interests of Irish construction materials manufacturers are being taken into account in preparatory work being carried out, both at home and at Commission level; for the coming into operation of the directive.
