59 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the reason for the continuous delay in recoupment of staff salaries to voluntary secondary schools; if she will give an assurance that in future no such delays will occur; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Claims for recoupment to school authorities in respect of the payment of substitute and some part time teachers are submitted at the end of each month. Every effort is made to provide recoupment to the schools as soon as possible. Arrangements are in hand for the direct payment by the Department of certain eligible part time teachers and when these arrangements have been finalised school authorities will be relieved of the function of paying such teachers.
