Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - Defective Chimneys.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

149 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment , in view of the high fire risk from defective chimneys in 105 houses in Abbeyquarter South, Cranmore Estate, Sligo, and the estimated cost of at least £3,000 per house for minimum repairs without taking into consideration compensation for the residents, and having regard to the fact that no allocations to meet this kind of demand has been made to Sligo Corporation in the 1990 allocation, he will make available a special emergency allocation for a cash job to replace the chimneys.

An allocation of £100,000 has been made to the corporation under the remedial works scheme for expenditure this year. The apportionment of the allocation between its approved projects, including the Abbeyquarter estate, is a matter for the local authority. Tender documentation in respect of the estate is awaited.
