Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - Protective Clothing.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

129 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to dissatisfaction within the Garda Síochána with the protective clothing issued to them for outdoor duty, particularly in the case of the 1,500 gardaí who are involved in Border duties; and if he will take immediate steps to remedy this situation.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a committee representative of Garda management and the Garda Associations is currently reviewing the suitability of protective and other clothing issued to members of the force. Any recommendations they produce for the improvement or replacement of the protective clothing currently on issue, will be very favourably considered.
