Ceist:92 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to introduce any legislation or regulations to provide for the environmental labelling of food and other products.
Written Answers. - Labelling of Food.
The legislation establishing the Environmental Protection Agency will provide for an environmental labelling scheme. It is the intention that the scheme to be introduced will take account of a European Community environment labelling scheme for which proposals are being developed by the EC Commission.
As regards food products, which are the responsibility of the Minister for Agriculture and Food, European Community Regulations providing for the production, inspection and labelling of organic products are expected to be adopted during the Irish Presidency.
