Vol. 397 No. 2

Written Answers. - Log Books.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

40 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some customs and excise inspectors have asked to see the log books of fishing vessels before approving payment of excise duty-VAT on fuel; and if he will convey to the Revenue Commissioners the fact that such log books are confidential and that fishermen are obliged to show them to nobody other than to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the administration of the scheme whereby rebates may be made by the Revenue Commissioners of excise duty-VAT on fuel oil used by fishing boats. The operation of the scheme is a matter solely for the Revenue Commissioners and I have no function in the matter.
