Vol. 397 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Treatment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

93 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will undergo cardiac by-pass surgery at the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7; if he will ensure that the necessary surgery takes place in ample time having regard to the state of the person's health at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The scheduling of surgery is a matter for the clinical judgment of the consultant concerned. I have made inquiries from the Mater Hospital who have informed me that this person has been put on the "non-urgent" waiting list for cardiac bypass surgery. However, if this person feels that he needs more immediate attention, he should contact his general practitioner who would be in the best position to highlight his case to his consultant.
